Allow yourself to fail
Make it easier
on yourself
Don’t be afraid to
change it up
Don’t set yourself up to fail. If
your resolu琀椀on is to spend less
琀椀me on your phone before bed,
don’t bring it into bed with you.
Set your alarm and put it out of
reach.
Doing something for 365 days
is tough, so why not try microresolu琀椀ons this year? Separate
the year into segments,
whether that’s monthly or
quarterly, and pick a series
of di昀昀erent goals that can 昀椀ll
these new 琀椀mescales. For
example, maybe the 昀椀rst month
could be drinking less alcohol,
while the second could be
cu琀ng out sweets and so on.
You may 昀椀nd that one of the
micro-resolu琀椀ons becomes a
fully-昀氀edged habit that lasts for
years to come.
A habit is hard to form and, on
some days, you’re not going
to achieve the task you’ve
set yourself. It’s important in
these moments to know that
it’s okay to fail. Don’t let the
occasional missed exercise class
or Friday doughnut throw you
o昀昀 course. Most people slip up
in the 昀椀rst month, but it’s those
who con琀椀nue to persist with
their goals that are the most
successful.
