Wrap up
While it is easier to think more compassionately about the other
person and what can be done to resolve an issue, the most practical
place to start is where we have the most control - and that is with
ourselves.
We can reflect on the ways where we have made situations more
difficult, contributed to a misunderstanding or hurt others. This is not
about being perfect. It is really about being mindful so that we can
make better choices.
So ask yourself: if you were in a similar situation how would you
prefer to manage it? Is there something you would really like to say –
and if you said it, would it sound respectful or kind? This approach
can help turn down the dial of the background temperature so that
when a sudden change or difficulty is triggered by events outside of
your control you will be better placed to navigate through it.
