Connect healthspan with wealthspan
Living longer is only one part of the equation.
Healthspan refers to the years of life spent in
relatively good health and with the ability to
live independently.
Health and 昀椀nances are closely connected. Poor
health may reduce the capacity to work, create
additional expenses or increase the need for
personal support. Financial insecurity can also
make it harder to access healthy food, suitable
housing, preventive care and social activities.
The World Health Organization’s healthy ageing
program recognises the importance of enabling
people to maintain their functional ability and
quality of life as they grow older.
Investing in health can therefore be viewed as
part of a wider longevity plan. Regular physical
activity, preventive healthcare, nutritious food,
adequate sleep and strong social connections
may support both quality of life and 昀椀nancial
independence. Even with healthy habits,
however, illness and care needs remain possible,
so potential healthcare and long-term support
costs should not be overlooked.
