Health checks
by life stage
20s and 30s
This is a good time to build a health
baseline and establish regular
preventive habits.
Children and teenagers
For children, health
checks focus on growth,
development, immunisation,
hearing, vision, sleep,
behaviour and emotional
wellbeing.
During adolescence, health
conversations may also
include mental health, body
image, nutrition, physical
activity, sexual health,
substance use, vaping,
screen time and sleep.
Consider discussing:
• Blood pressure
• Skin checks
• Dental and eye checks
• Sexual health testing where relevant
• Mental health and stress
• Alcohol, smoking or vaping
• Sleep and physical activity
• Family history
• Cervical screening from age 25
• Pregnancy planning and
preconception health
People with a strong family history of
heart disease, diabetes, melanoma,
bowel cancer, breast cancer,
ovarian cancer or prostate cancer
should speak with their GP earlier.
