Flu Symptoms:
How to Tell If
You've Got It
The flu often gets mistaken for
the common cold, but it’s a
completely different beast. Unlike
a mild sniffle, the flu hits hard and
fast. If you've got the flu, you
might experience:
Fever and chills
Dry cough
Sore throat
Stuffy or runny nose
Aching muscles and joints
Headaches
Extreme fatigue (feeling
wiped out)
Sometimes nausea, vomiting,
and diarrhoea (especially in
kids)
Symptoms usually last about a
week, but for some, the fatigue
can linger for weeks after
recovery. If you experience
difficulty breathing, chest pain,
confusion, or persistent vomiting,
it’s time to see a doctor.
Now you can self-test
for Respiratory
Syncytial Virus (RSV),
Influenza A / B and
COVID-19 at home! This
simple nasal swab test
detects four virus
antigens in a single test.
The Post-COVID
Flu Surge: What’s
Changed?
The COVID-19 pandemic shook
up the way respiratory viruses
behave. During 2020 and 2021,
strict lockdowns, travel
restrictions, social distancing, and
mask-wearing nearly wiped out
the flu in Australia. But as
restrictions eased, influenza made
a roaring comeback.
2024 was a record-breaking flu
season, with over 352,000
confirmed cases in Australia.
That’s a 20% jump from the
previous year and even higher
than the massive 2019 flu season.
