A GLOBALLY
RECOGNISED
PUBLIC HEALTH
SUCCESS
DID
YOU
KNOW?
Water 昀氀uoridation has been hailed as one of
the greatest public health achievements of
the 20th century.
Health authorities worldwide, including the
World Health Organisation, the National
Health and Medical Research Council, and
the Australian Medical Association, strongly
endorse its use.
•
In Australia, over $11.1 billion is spent
on dental services.
•
3 in 10 people delay or avoid seeing a
dentist because of cost.
•
1 in 4 children (aged 5-10) have
untreated decay in their baby teeth.
•
1 in 25 people (aged 15+) have no
natural teeth left
WHAT IS
DENTAL FLUOROSIS?
Dental 昀氀uorosis occurs when children consume too much 昀氀uoride while their teeth
are developing under the gums. This can result in white spots, lines, or, in rare cases,
pits or stains on the teeth.
In Australia, 昀氀uorosis is usually mild and doesn’t negatively impact the health or
appearance of teeth. In fact, mild 昀氀uorosis often fades over time and isn’t a cause
for concern.
CAN I BE
ALLERGIC TO
FLUORIDE?
Additional
resources :
No. According to the American
Academy of Allergy, Asthma and
Immunology, 昀氀uoride ions are
too small to trigger an allergic
reaction.
